Collagen induction therapy for gradual, reliable scar improvement
Microneedling stimulates the skin's natural wound-healing response, producing new collagen and elastin that gradually fills and smooths atrophic scar tissue. While less aggressive than RF Microneedling or laser resurfacing, it offers consistent improvement with lower downtime and is an excellent foundation for multi-modality scar programs.
How it works
Medical-grade microneedling at depths of 1.5–2.5mm creates controlled micro-injuries that penetrate into the papillary and upper reticular dermis — the layers where scar remodeling is needed. The healing response releases platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and other cytokines that recruit fibroblasts to the treatment area. These fibroblasts produce new collagen (primarily Type III, which matures to Type I over 3–6 months) and begin reorganizing existing scar collagen. Over successive sessions, the scar tissue is progressively replaced with more normally organized collagen, reducing scar depth and improving texture.
What to expect
Numbing cream is applied for 30 minutes. The microneedling device passes over the treatment area in multiple directions. The procedure takes 30–45 minutes. Skin appears red immediately post-treatment (similar to a mild sunburn).
Downtime and aftercare
24–48 hours of redness. Mild swelling for 2–3 days. Skin returns to baseline in 3–5 days. Lower downtime than RF Microneedling or laser options.
Results
Gradual improvement over a series of 4–6 sessions. Best results when combined with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or growth factor serums applied during the procedure. Expect 30–50% improvement in scar appearance with a full course.
