The Hyfrecator uses a low-power high-frequency electrical current to desiccate (dry out) and destroy superficial skin lesions. It is particularly effective for skin tags, small sebaceous hyperplasia, cherry angiomas, and other benign superficial growths. How it works
The Hyfrecator delivers a spark-gap electrical current directly to the lesion through a fine electrode tip. The alternating current at low power causes localized electrodesiccation: cellular water rapidly heats and vaporizes, destroying the lesion tissue without significant spread to surrounding skin. Unlike cutting or excision, no bleeding occurs (the current simultaneously cauterizes). The destroyed tissue forms a small eschar (scab) that naturally sloughs off within 7–14 days, leaving smooth skin underneath. What to expect
A topical or injectable local anesthetic is applied. Each lesion is treated in seconds with a brief buzzing sensation. Multiple lesions can often be treated in a single short session. The area turns white or tan immediately after, forming a small crust within 24 hours. No sutures or wound care beyond gentle cleansing is required.
Downtime and aftercare
Minimal. Crusts form within 24 hours and naturally slough off in 7–14 days. Avoid picking. Sun protection is essential for 4–6 weeks. Most patients return to normal activities immediately.
Results
Most lesions are completely resolved after a single treatment. Skin heals smooth and flat. Recurrence is uncommon for benign lesions. Results are typically visible within 2–3 weeks once crusts have resolved.
