Broad-spectrum light that clears pigment and redness in one pass

IPL uses a broad spectrum of light wavelengths to target multiple chromophores — melanin and hemoglobin — simultaneously. It's highly effective for sun-damaged skin showing a mix of brown spots and redness, delivering comprehensive photorejuvenation with minimal downtime.

How it works

Unlike a laser (single wavelength), IPL emits a wide band of light (typically 515–1200nm) that can be filtered to target specific chromophores. Melanin in pigmented lesions absorbs the light energy and converts it to heat, causing the cells to fragment. The body then clears the debris, and spots gradually flake off over 1–2 weeks. Because IPL also targets hemoglobin, it simultaneously reduces visible capillaries and redness — making it uniquely efficient for complex photoaging presentations. Cut-off filters allow Dr. Kim to focus the energy on the specific concerns present in your skin.

What to expect

A cool gel is applied to the skin. The IPL handpiece is placed directly against the skin and delivers a flash of light — often described as a mild rubber-band snap followed by warmth. The session covers the full face or targeted areas in 20–30 minutes. Immediately after, brown spots may look darker and slightly raised (this is expected and resolves within 1–2 weeks as they crust and flake).

Downtime and aftercare

Mild. Brown spots darken and may form small 'coffee ground' crusts for 7–14 days before clearing. Redness subsides within hours. Makeup can typically be worn the following day. Avoid sun exposure and use SPF 50+ throughout the treatment course.

Results

Noticeable clearance of sunspots and redness after 1–2 sessions. Best results achieved after a full course of 3–5 treatments. Significant improvement in overall skin tone, texture, and clarity.
