Trigger your skin's own repair cascade to clear pigmentation naturally

Microneedling creates thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin that simultaneously trigger collagen remodeling and dramatically enhance the delivery of topical brightening agents. For hyperpigmentation, it's particularly effective when paired with physician-grade serums containing tranexamic acid, niacinamide, or vitamin C.

How it works

A microneedling device (SkinPen or similar medical-grade system) moves across the skin, creating micro-injuries at precise depths (typically 0.5–2.5mm). This controlled damage activates the skin's wound-healing cascade: platelets release growth factors, fibroblasts are stimulated to produce new collagen and elastin, and keratinocytes accelerate their turnover cycle. The micro-channels also serve as temporary pathways for active ingredients — increasing their absorption by up to 90% compared to topical application alone. Brightening serums applied during microneedling penetrate directly to melanocyte-rich layers where they inhibit tyrosinase (the enzyme that produces melanin), creating a synergistic pigment-reduction effect.

What to expect

Topical numbing cream is applied for 30 minutes prior. The microneedling handpiece glides across the skin methodically while a soothing serum is applied continuously. Mild pressure and a vibrating sensation are typical — most patients find it very tolerable. Immediately post-treatment, the skin looks red (similar to a mild sunburn) and may feel warm.

Downtime and aftercare

24–48 hours of redness and mild swelling. Skin may feel tight and slightly rough for 3–5 days. No active skincare (retinoids, AHAs) for 5 days post-treatment. SPF 50+ essential.

Results

Gradual improvement over 4–6 weeks as new collagen matures. A series of 3–6 treatments produces significant reduction in PIH and overall improved skin luminosity. Results continue improving for months after the final session.

Ideal for

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, PIH from acne, melasma (as adjunct), overall skin brightening

Recommended treatment course

3–6 sessions, 4 weeks apart
