The gold standard for vascular redness and rosacea — proven and lasting
IPL is the most effective and most studied treatment for erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (redness subtype) and visible capillaries. Its hemoglobin-targeting wavelengths selectively destroy the dilated vessels responsible for chronic redness without affecting surrounding tissue.
How it works
IPL wavelengths in the 530–600nm range are specifically absorbed by oxyhemoglobin in blood. When light energy is absorbed by the hemoglobin in a superficial blood vessel, it converts to heat — coagulating the vessel wall. The body then resorbs the damaged vessel, eliminating the visible redness it was causing. Because the light skips from chromophore to chromophore (hemoglobin in this case), the surrounding skin is unaffected. IPL also has an anti-inflammatory effect through photobiomodulation, helping to reduce the low-grade inflammation that perpetuates rosacea flare cycles.
What to expect
A cool gel is applied. The IPL handpiece delivers flashes of light — each feels like a rubber band snap with a brief warmth. The treated areas may look pinker immediately after and some capillaries may darken temporarily before clearing. Full session covers the treatment area in 20–30 minutes.
Downtime and aftercare
Minimal. Mild redness for a few hours. Visible vessels may temporarily darken and resolve within 1–2 weeks. SPF 50+ essential during treatment course.
Results
Significant reduction in baseline redness and visible capillaries after 2–3 sessions. Many patients see 70–80% clearance of redness after a complete course. Maintenance sessions every 6–12 months keep rosacea in check.
