The Chemical Peel is our flagship 4th-generation Korean chemical peel, specifically formulated to address active acne, congestion, and oiliness. Its alkaline pH technology and LHA chemistry create an environment that dissolves sebum plugs, kills P. acnes bacteria, and regulates oil production — all while respecting the skin barrier.
How it works
LHA (lipophilic hydroxy acid) is a derivative of salicylic acid with a higher molecular weight, making it more controlled in its penetration and gentler on the skin barrier. Because it's lipophilic, it penetrates through the skin's sebaceous (oil) pathway — exactly where acne originates. Once inside the follicle, LHA exfoliates the follicular walls, dissolves the impacted sebum and dead cells that form blackheads and comedones, and creates an inhospitable environment for Cutibacterium acnes (the bacteria responsible for inflammatory acne). The alkaline component of the Lhala system modulates skin pH, which temporarily reduces bacterial proliferation and calms the chronic low-grade inflammation that perpetuates breakouts.
What to expect
The treatment is performed in a facial-like setting and is surprisingly comfortable. After cleansing, the peel solution is applied and allowed to work for a precise time determined by Dr. Kim based on your skin type and concern severity. A mild tingling is normal. A neutralizing and soothing mask follows. Your skin will look calm and bright immediately after — not red or raw.
Downtime and aftercare
Minimal. Light flaking may occur for 3–5 days as congestion lifts. Some patients experience a 'purge' in the week following — a temporary increase in surface breakouts as trapped sebum is pushed out. This is a normal, positive sign. No harsh actives for 5 days.
Results
Immediate improvement in clarity and reduced oiliness. After a series of 4–6 treatments, most patients see significantly fewer active breakouts, minimized pores, and a more even complexion.
