How is RF microneedling different from traditional microneedling?

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling is an enhanced version of the traditional treatment. Also called collagen induction therapy, microneedling uses dozens of tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin’s surface.

These controlled injuries accelerate cell turnover and trigger your body’s healing response, which creates new collagen and elastin to repair the damage. Collagen and elastin are proteins that strengthen your connective tissues, giving your skin a supple, youthful appearance.

RF microneedling devices deliver radiofrequency energy into the skin while creating micro-wounds. RF energy can penetrate deeper into the body’s tissues to further stimulate new collagen and elastin, resulting in tighter skin and more significant improvements than traditional microneedling.

What can RF microneedling do for my skin?

RF microneedling can enhance your skin’s tone, texture, and elasticity to improve the appearance of many skin concerns, such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Brown spots
  • Enlarged pores
  • Skin laxity

With RF microneedling, you can enjoy tighter, clearer skin without the downtime of cosmetic surgery.

Does RF microneedling hurt?

RF microneedling can cause some discomfort, but Dr. Kim applies a topical numbing cream beforehand to relieve pain during treatment. The RF energy the device uses feels like a mild warming sensation, and you may feel quick pricks as the needles penetrate your skin.

What will my face look like after RF microneedling?

Immediately after RF microneedling, you may experience some redness, swelling, and tenderness in the treated area. This is a normal part of the healing process and should subside within a few days. You can resume your regular activities right after the procedure.

In the days following RF microneedling, you may notice some peeling or flaking of the skin as the damaged outer layers of skin begin to slough off and reveal new, healthy skin cells.

Is one RF microneedling treatment enough?

While you may see initial improvements in your skin’s tone and texture within weeks of your first treatment, most people need multiple sessions to achieve lasting results. Every person is different, but three to four microneedling treatments spaced four to six weeks apart are standard for long-term skin rejuvenation.
