request an appointmentWhat are injectables?
Injectables are substances delivered into the skin through an ultra-thin needle or microcannula (a thin, flexible tube) to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and address other aging signs.
While many clinics use aestheticians to perform cosmetic treatment, Dr. Kim performs all injectables herself to ensure the highest level of safety and natural-looking results at Glow Up MD.
Are there different types of injectables?
There are many types of injectables, but the two most common are:
Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators reduce the appearance of wrinkles by targeting the muscles beneath them. The most popular neuromodulator on the market is Botox® Cosmetic. Neuromodulators like Botox interfere with the nerve signals that cause muscle movement. When the muscle can’t contract, the skin can’t fold.
Botox can soften many types of wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming. It also has several other cosmetic and medical uses, including:
- Nonsurgical lip flip
- Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
- Jaw slimming/masseter muscle reduction
- Gummy smile
Botox can relieve muscular pain from temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) when injected into the masseter muscles in your jaw.
Dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances, typically made with hyaluronic acid, that plump up the skin. They can address volume loss, thinning lips, and hollowness.
Can injectables treat all types of wrinkles?
Injectables can treat many types of wrinkles, including:
Dynamic wrinkles
Dynamic wrinkles, or expression lines, develop from repeated muscle movement. Neuromodulators can smooth dynamic lines, which tend to appear in the upper one-third of the face. Common dynamic wrinkles include:
- Crow’s feet
- Forehead lines
- Glabellar lines (between the eyebrows)
- Bunny lines (on the nose)
- Marionette lines (around the mouth)
Botox and other neuromodulators typically last about three to four months before wearing off*.
Static wrinkles
Static wrinkles are the result of volume loss rather than facial movement. They usually take longer to develop and appear even when your face is at rest. Nasolabial folds, jowls, and hollow cheeks tend to develop in the lower half of your face. Dermal fillers can help fill in these lines and support your skin’s underlying structure to refresh your appearance.
Fillers typically last between 6-12 months before gradually breaking down*. You can return to Glow Up MD for additional treatments to maintain your results.
